The History:
Bengal Friends & Company Limited founded in the year 1948 by the leadership of Late Mr. Golam Haider Khan widely known as G.H.Khan as a Coal Tar (Alkatra) manufacturing company in Dhaka. Company started its business as a partnership business among the family members. In 1972 it became a Private Limited Company. Mr. M. H.Khan Monju, managing director of Comfort Group has joined this company by purchasing 36 percent share and Mr. Niaz Rahim of Rahimafrooz joined this company by taking 25 percent share.
Bengal Friends & Co, Ltd is one of the leading Coal Tar distillation industry in Bangladesh. By using a by-product of coke coal we are producing –Coal Tar (Alkatra), creosote oil light & heavy, naphthalene etc. Coal Tar (Alkatra) uses in Bambo fence, wooden pillar, tin roof of village houses, steel barges, ferry boat, fishing trawler and widely used in wooden boat. BFCL’S product alkatra main market is in greater Sylhet, greater Barisal, Bhairab Bazar, Chittagong, Bhramanbaria, Chandpur, greater Faridpur, Cox bazaar, Dhaka and Narayangonj etc.
When BFCL started business of Alkatra in that time there was only few company doing Alkatra business in the country. In fact BFCL introduced Alkatra’s uses in this country. They were the pioneers in this trade, currently many companies come in this trade, but BFCL still has a acknowledgable reputation in the market due to its sincerity, trust and quality. Its trademark “Famous Jahaj Marka Alkatra” became a brand name in the market as well as in the country. At present BFCL is occupying about 40% market share.
